What is a Lip Flip procedure?

This procedure takes advantage of Botox injections to help the upper lip relax and appear more visible when contracted. The goal of these Botox injections is to target the orbicularis oris muscle (the muscle that controls movement of the mouth and lips) and relax the part of the muscle over the upper lip that causes it to roll slightly upward. Targeting this aspect of the muscle allows for the lip to appear more voluminous and defined. This is a minimally invasive procedure that is typically only 10 minutes long, and results will last about 3 to 4 months.

Before starting your procedure, your health history will be assessed based on known allergies, medical conditions, or contraindications to potential neurotoxins, prior neurotoxin, facial surgery, trauma history. This is typically a quick and painless procedure and is considered less invasive than other alternatives. We ask you not to wear any makeup (or at least not wear any lipstick) to ensure accurate documentation of before and after photos, as well as to ensure sterility. Most patients describe this procedure as pretty painless, as topical lidocaine will be applied for proper numbing. The injections itself will last about 10 minutes.

Are you a good candidate for Lip Flip?

Generally, a good candidate is any healthy individual who believes they already have naturally full lips but that these full lips are no longer visible upon smiling. Furthermore, a good candidate is someone who would like a subtle but more prominent pout. Downtime, results, and follow-ups

There is no downtime associated with lip flips and you can return back to doing your daily routine as soon as you step out of clinic! However, a side effect patients often complain about post procedure is their lip feeling numb for a short while and not being able to eat and drink properly. This can be a possible a side effect and downtime, however, this will only occur if too much Botox Botox has been injected into the orbicularis oris muscle. How should I prepare for Lip Filler

Before coming in to receive your treatment, you should follow these pre-procedure instructions to minimize the risks of adverse reactions:

• Avoid alcohol, as it may increase your risk of bruising
• Avoid anti-inflammatory/blood-thinning medications 2 weeks in advance if possible, as these can increase your risk of swelling and bruising (Aspirin, Vitamin E, Ginkgo Biloba, Ginseng, St. John’s Wort, Omega 3/Fish Oil supplements, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Aleve, and other NSAIDs).
• Avoid coming in with makeup or be prepared to remove it.
• Try to schedule appointment two weeks before special events, as swelling can take up to two weeks to resolve.
• Stay hydrated and eat well before your appointment.

Post operative care

Although there is no downtime, and you can return to your normal activities, it is important to follow these post-treatment instructions in order to maximize the results and avoid complications:

• Don’t put any pressure, or massage/manipulate the injected area for 24 hours after treatment.
• Remain upright for 4 hours after injection (make sure not to lay down flat or against your lips)
• Exaggerate movement of the lips for 1 hour after injection
• Refrain from using ibuporofen, aspirin, fish oil supplements, or vitamin E for 24 hours following injection
• Refrain from aerobic exercise that increases your heart rate greatly (running, swimming, bicycling, etc) for 24 hours
• Ice area for the first day for 30 min. Ice is helpful every 2 hours for 30 min at a time. 2 – 3 times a day is plenty.
• Avoid saunas — minimal sweating recommended.
• Avoid salty foods and alcohol during first two weeks post-treatment.
