Why it is Important to Take Care of Your Teeth?

It is important to take care of your teeth for a number of reasons. First, oral health is linked to overall health. Good oral hygiene can help prevent gum disease, which has been linked to heart disease, stroke, and other health problems. Second, taking care of your teeth can help you avoid costly dental procedures down the road. Third, brushing your teeth daily helps get rid of plaque. Finally, healthy teeth and gums can help you feel and look your best.

How Do I Get Rid of Plaque?

The best way to get rid of plaque is to brush your teeth twice a day and floss at least once a day. Plaque is a sticky film of bacteria that forms on your teeth. If you don't remove plaque, it can harden and turn into tartar, which can cause cavities.

What’s the Right Way to Brush My Teeth?

If you're wondering how to brush your teeth the right way, you're not alone. Many people are unsure of the proper technique. The good news is that it's not difficult to learn. Here are a few tips to help you get started:

First, choose a toothbrush that's comfortable for you to use (a soft-bristled toothbrush is recommended). There are many different types available, so take some time to find one that suits your needs.

Next, Wet your toothbrush and apply a pea-sized amount of toothpaste to it. Aim the toothbrush at a 45-degree angle towards the gum line and use gentle circular motions. Be sure to brush on all surfaces of your teeth, including the front, back, and top. Use a light back-and-forth motion on the chewing surfaces of your molars. You should also brush your tongue to remove bacteria. Spit the toothpaste out after brushing.

What About Flossing?

The "right way to floss" depends on what type of floss you're using. If you're using traditional string floss, the American Dental Association (ADA) recommends winding most of the floss around each middle finger, leaving about an inch or two of floss to work with. Gently guide the floss between your teeth using a back-and-forth motion, and use a gentle rubbing motion to clean the sides of your teeth. Be careful not to snap the floss into your gums. When you're finished, wind the used floss around the same fingers and carefully pull it out of your mouth.

If you are using an "interdental brush" the American Dental Association (ADA) recommends to find the right size brush for your teeth. Once you have the brush, you'll want to insert it into the space between your teeth and gently move it back and forth. You may need to use a little pressure to get the job done, but be careful not to overdo it. When you're finished, be sure to rinse your mouth out well.

Does What I Eat Affect My Teeth?

What you eat and drink can have a big impact on your teeth. Coffee and tea can stain your teeth, while sugary and acidic foods can damage your tooth enamel. To keep your teeth healthy, it's important to eat a balanced diet and limit sugary and acidic foods.

Sugary foods can affect your teeth – in both good and bad ways. Eating sugary foods can cause cavities, but on the other hand, they can also help to strengthen your teeth. So it really depends on how you eat them and how often you brush your teeth afterward. If you eat sugary foods in moderation and make sure to brush your teeth regularly, then they shouldn’t have a negative impact on your oral health.

When Should I Go to the Dentist?

The best time to visit the dentist is every six months, or at least once a year. However, some patients may need to visit more frequently depending on their individual oral health needs. Patients with gum disease, for example, may need to see the dentist every three or four months. And, any time you have a dental emergency – such as a toothache, cracked tooth, or lost filling – you should see the dentist right away.

Lumina Aesthetics’ Dental Care will ensure you have a good oral hygiene by having done various dental treatments. One of our best recommendations to remove plaque is by having a Dental Scaling treatment. Dental Scaling is a dental treatment to removes all the plaque and tartar (hardened plaque) above and below the gum line, making sure to clean all the way down to the bottom of the pocket. Our dentist will then begin root planning, smoothing out your teeth roots to help your gums reattach to your teeth. Making you plaque free and thus having a good oral hygiene.
